I want to be healthy, fit and cognitively strong, but I’m not willing to sacrifice my happiness for it or spend a lot of time, effort or money sticking to my routine. I turn 52 in a few weeks, born in the eternal night of the Jukkasjärvi winter of 1972 (home of the Ice Hotel in Northern Sweden), meaning I should have peaked physically a long time ago. Instead, I just broke my own push-ups record on New Year’s Eve.

I’ve been lifting weights consistently since I was 14, but quit after 33 years, in the summer of 2019 when I was 47. Since then, I only go to an outdoor gym for bodyweight exercises, or make push-ups, crunches etc. at home.

I want to take as few supplements as possible. I’m not interested in delving too deep into the science of why. Let’s say I just like to be as natural as possible, and be tied to as few artificial compounds as I reasonably can. I take only the following:

  • A table spoon of fish oil every day [from ArcticMed, use coupon code KARLMIKAELSYDIN for a discount] every day with my lunch or dinner

  • A heaped tablespoon of creatine every day (typically in the morning)

  • A level teaspoon of NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) - my most recent “magical” finding

  • A capsule of vitamin-D every day with my lunch or dinner (100 micrograms = 4000 IE

I think my system seems to be working. This is me by the way. Hi!
